The Guisborian

The Guisborian was Guisborough Grammar School's student-run magazine. It was founded in 1900, and lasted until the changeover to Prior Pursglove College in the early 1970s. Each issue is a fascinating window into the life of Guisborough Grammar School and the fortunes of its pupils and alumni.

To view the magazines, click on the links below. They will open as PDF files.

We plan to make the whole archive of Guisborian magazines available here for free, although this may take a little while. We have a large collection at the college, some of which we still need to scan, but there are some years missing.

If you have a Guisborian magazine from between 1914 and 1932 we would be very interested in making an electronic copy.

Please be aware that these magazines are a product of their time. As such, they may contain opinions, views and material that nowadays we find problematic, and that we no do not agree with. These magazines are a record of the grammar school as it was then; to find out about the college as it is now, please visit the college website.

Some of the magazines are quite large. We have split these into smaller sections to make them easier to view.

With thanks to Mr W. N. Thompson for lending his collection of Guisborian magazines to be scanned.
