Masters of the free school
From 1561 until the 1880s, the free grammar school in Guisborough was a one-room school led by a Master. We have very few pictures of these early school masters, but are lucky to have several photographs from the Victorian period.

The photograph was taken in 1883. At the time, the free grammar school was still a one-class school. Rev. Jackson was the last Master to teach at and lead the school before its reconstitution in 1886 into Guisborough Grammar School.
